Vespa Edizione Ottantesimo is a 1,946-Unit Limited GTS 310

  • Limited to 1,946 units
  • 25bhp 310 hpe engine and standard connectivity

Vespa celebrates its 80th anniversary with the Edizione Ottantesimo special model based on the Vespa GTS 310. The scooter was shown in Rome at the “80 Years of an Icon” event. Production will be limited to only 1,946 units, which is a direct reference to the year Vespa was born. It is a collector-focused scooter built around Vespa’s most important identity, its steel monocoque body. Nope, its based on the GTS 310 and not coming to India.

Edizione Ottantesimo takes the familiar GTS 310 base and gives it a livery inspired by raw steel. This is a clever idea because Vespa’s design story has always been linked to its load-bearing steel body and not a separate frame covered by plastic panels. The finish is meant to show the material soul of Vespa giving a more premium and modern look.

The special livery mixes a steel-inspired body finish with green highlights. Vespa says this green shade looks back to some of the early single-colour Vespa models. The colour appears on the saddle and wheels, while the sides carry a three-dimensional “80” graphic. The outline of this graphic also refers to Vespa’s hexagonal logo and the shape of bolts, linking the design to hand-made, mechanical details.

The seat has been given a sporty single-seater look, with a removable hard cover at the rear in the same colour as the body. This recalls the tail fairings used on racing-style Vespas. However, the seat is still approved for two people, which keeps the scooter usable beyond display duty. It gets horizontal heat-welded seams and tone-on-tone stitching. Redesigned wheel are finished to echo the closed, pressed-sheet-metal style of the original 1946 Vespa 98 wheels with a diamond-finished rim.

Vespa Instrument Cluster

Edizione Ottantesimo is powered by the 310 hpe single-cylinder engine that produces 25bhp making it the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Vespa. The scooter gets full LED lighting and a five-inch TFT colour display. The Vespa MIA connectivity system is also standard allowing the rider to use connected functions through the display. A keyless system is included too, and Vespa has also added courtesy lights in the back shield and under-seat compartment.

Vespa will also offer accessories for the Edizione Ottantesimo including a 36-litre top box finished to match the bodywork with an optional padded backrest in the same colour and material as the seat. Other original Vespa accessories include front and rear luggage racks, perimeter bars, fairings, windscreens and an electronic anti-theft system. A dedicated matching helmet is also part of the anniversary theme finished in a material grey shade with green details and the same “80” graphic on the rear.
