What is so Special About the Indian Concept Girder

  • Celebrates girder front fork first introduced on the Indian Chief in 1946
  • Livery inspired by Burt Munro’s streamliner

Back in the end of 2025, Indian Motorcycle showed everybody the Concept Girder as a tribute to one of the most distinctive engineering ideas in its history. The concept is a celebration of the legacy centred on the girder front fork that first appeared on the Indian Chief in 1946. Indian says it marked a significant improvement over the earlier leaf-sprung design and became nearly as symbolic to the brand as the valanced fenders and Indian headdress.

Indian Front Suspension

The girder front-end was important because it represented a more evolved and more controlled suspension idea for its time. So while the bike clearly has show-bike presence, the central feature is not arbitrary. It is a deliberate revival of a front suspension architecture that once helped define the engineering direction of the Indian Chief.

And it is not fragile as a concept, but is built around the Thunderstroke 116 V-twin, which the company describes as the only big twin on the market delivering pure air-cooled performance in this form. This ties the historic design to a current large-capacity powertrain with strong visual and mechanical presence.

Indian Right Rear Three Quarter

Above all, the livery pays tribute to Burt Munro’s streamliner adding another layer to the concept’s mass. Munro remains one of the most emotionally powerful figures in Indian Motorcycle’s history. The company is not only celebrating styling heritage but also recalling a period when engineering ambition and individuality sat at the centre of the brand’s reputation.
