Hero Xoom 160 More Affordable Variant Launch Expected Soon

–Xoom 160 listed with ZX suffix now

-A cheaper VX trim could be on its way

Hero Motocorp might be prepping to launch a new, more affordable variant of its new maxi-scooter, the Xoom 160. The scooter was launched in January last year, and it has been available in a single variant. However, the company now lists the scooter with a ZX suffix on its website, which has been reserved for the higher-spec variants of Hero’s other scooters such as the Xoom 110 and 125. This could be an indication that a more affordable VX variant is on its way.

As is the case with smaller Xoom models, the differentiating factor between the ZX and VX models could be some of the features. The latter might miss out on things like a keyless start-stop system, smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. While the existing ZX model gets single-channel ABS, the VX trim could do with a cheaper CBS (combined braking system) braking mechanism. A few other minor features might also be skipped for the VX trim.

Now, we expect the main technical specifications of the upcoming Xoom 160 VX to remain the same as the existing variant. It is powered by a 156cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 14.6bhp and 14Nm. The kerb weight stands at 142.5 kg, the under-seat storage provision offers 22 litres of space, and the fuel tank capacity is 7 litres. The adventure-styled maxi-scooter rides on large 14-inch wheels with block-pattern tyres and telescopic forks and dual springs.

Now, if Hero is actually planning to launch a new variant of the Xoom 160, it remains to be seen how much more affordable it will be as compared to the model currently on sale. The Xoom 160 ZX costs Rs. 1.43 lakh, ex-showroom, and the VX could be Rs. 6,000-10,000 less than that.
