All-new BMW S 1000 RR spotted testing

The all-new BMW S 1000 RR has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. The bike will replace the current S 1000 RR and there are a number of changes both visually and in terms of hardware.

Starting with the design, the bike looks sharper and more aggressive than the outgoing bike. From the split LED headlights to the sharp cuts and creases in the side panels and the upswept tail section, there is a focused look. What also grabs attention is the large wing on the front fairing that will improve downforce, stability and help with more grip in corners.

Under the bodywork is a new perimeter style frame, suspended by an electronically adjustable USD fork and monoshock. Braking, meanwhile, is taken care of by twin discs at the front and a single disc at the rear. One can also see the new Brembo Hypure brake calipers on the bike. The S 1000 RR’s arch rival, the Ducati Panigale V4 S uses the same brake caliper and these are known to offer stupendous stopping power.

The test motorcycle also appears to feature updated switchgear, pointing towards changes to the electronics suite. There is no BMW multi-controller wheel on the left side and instead there are a number of buttons to navigate through the menus and settings. These are displayed on a large TFT display, seemingly among the biggest we’ve seen on a superbike.

Interestingly, the prototype was seen wearing mirrors, indicators, a number plate, and road-legal tyres, indicating that it is much closer to production than an early development mule.

BMW has not revealed any technical details yet, but the 999cc inline-four engine is expected to receive updates to comply with upcoming emission regulations while retaining its performance credentials. The electronics package is also likely to be updated with new rider aids and software enhancements.

The updated BMW S 1000 RR is expected to make its global debut in 2027, with the next-generation M 1000 RR likely to follow thereafter. The new BMW S 1000 RR could also possibly be displayed at EICMA 2026. Expect the bike to be launched in India in 2027.
