At Leisure Valley park, buses crowd out visitors; GMDA seeks police action in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: Illegal parking of buses and other commercial vehicles at Leisure Valley — a persistent problem — has been a major cause of concern for visitors to the park.
GMDA, after taking note of the mess, has now reached out to the traffic police, urging them to take immediate action against all violators.

“Several commercial vehicles parked there are causing difficulty to visitors and creating unsanitary conditions. We have written to the traffic police and shared photographic evidence to ensure action is taken,” a senior GMDA official said.
The misuse of the parking area has not only disrupted its intended purpose but has also led to sanitation issues due to garbage left behind by the parked vehicles.

In a letter to the deputy commissioner of police (traffic) recently, GMDA has highlighted the disruption caused to the “intended purpose of the parking facility”.
Visitors find it increasingly difficult to find parking spaces for their personal vehicles, diminishing the overall appeal of the popular park.
GMDA has urged the traffic authorities to take immediate action by penalising offenders, relocating heavy vehicles to designated parking zones, and implementing regular monitoring to prevent such violations in the future.
DCP (traffic) Virender Vij said he had not yet received the official communication but assured that necessary steps would be taken.
“We are conducting regular drives against wrong parking. Last year alone, over 1.5 lakh challans were issued. However, civic authorities must also consider creating dedicated parking facilities, especially for autos and cars, to ensure smoother traffic management,” he said.
Meanwhile, the residents and park visitors said that there is a need to have coordinated efforts between GMDA and traffic authorities to resolve the issue and restore the utility and cleanliness of the Leisure Valley parking area.
RWA president of Sushant Lok 1 Deepak Verma said, “It becomes difficult to find parking here, especially in the evening hours.”
“If someone parks their vehicle on the roadside, traffic police will tow the vehicle, causing an unnecessary situation. There is a need to take action to resolve the issue. The park is meant to be a peaceful spot for families, but the illegal parking has turned it into a mess,” Verma said.
“This area is highly commercial, yet there is no dedicated parking. Why should visitors to the park be hassled? Civic authorities should consider developing proper parking facilities to address the problem permanently,” Sudhir Sachdeva, a resident of Sushant Lok 1, said.
