Himachal Pradesh hikes toll fees starting April 1: What travellers need to know

Travelling to Himachal Pradesh will get costly now as starting April 1, 2025, the state government has increased toll fees for the financial year 2025-26. The new hike in price will be applicable for both private and commercial vehicles, including tourists, transporters, and daily commuters.
As per reports, the revised toll charges will be implemented at 55 toll barriers across the state. The new toll rates show an increase of INR 10 for private cars and commercial passenger vehicles, while cargo and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will see an additional INR 20 in charges.
Here’s the list of updated toll rates:
Private vehicles: INR 70 for a 24-hour pass (previously INR 60)

Passenger vehicles (6-12 seats): INR 110
Passenger vehicles (more than 12 seats): INR 180
Heavy cargo vehicles: INR 570 (previously INR 550)
Cargo vehicles over 250 quintals: INR 720
Cargo vehicles (120-250 quintals): INR 570
Cargo vehicles (90-120 quintals): INR 320 (previously INR 300)
Cargo vehicles (20-90 quintals): INR 170 (previously INR 150)
Cargo vehicles below 20 quintals: INR 130 (previously INR 110)
Private and public tractors: INR 70 (previously INR 50)
The state’s 55 toll barriers are strategically located at key entry points, with concentration in districts such as Una (15 toll points), Solan (13), and Sirmaur (8). Some of the busiest toll points are near popular tourist destinations, including Shimla and Manali.

Notably, the Parwanoo toll barrier on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway (NH-5) is a prime entry point for tourists heading to Shimla. The hike in toll fees is part of the government’s plan to generate additional revenue for road maintenance.
This increased toll collection aims to enhance road conditions and ensure smoother travel for both locals and visitors. While the toll fee increase will raise travel costs for individuals and transporters, the government emphasizes that these funds will be used to improve the state’s road infrastructure, benefiting travelers in the long run.
