HMSI Inaugurates Engine Assembly Line At Manesar Plant In Haryana

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has inaugurated a new engine assembly line at its Global Resource Factory in Manesar, Gurugram (Haryana). This assembly line will be used for the production of the completely knocked down (CKD) assembly of the engines used in the brand’s motorcycles. This assembly line can manufacture 600 engines per day. Based on the Japanese automaker’s announcement this will be capable of producing engines for various models ranging from 110 cc to 300 cc and will cater to various customers of the brand around the world.

This assembly will be capable of utilizing DC tools for critical torquing. It will also have a vision camera inspection system and traceability of parts and processes. Furthermore, the brand has also added a dedicated exhaust collection line and an acoustic chamber to inspect engine sound.

The new CKD engine assembly line now features a flywheel assembly automation system for tightening and torquing. Additionally, there is an automatic piston parts verification system as well as a small parts interlocking unit that ensures error-free processes.

Speaking on the occasion, Tsutsumu Otani, Managing Director, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, said, “We are happy to introduce a new engine assembly line for CKD exports at our Global Resource Factory in Manesar. It is a testament to our relentless pursuit of driving technological advancements in the industry. With this step, HMSI aims to boost its export capabilities, reaching new heights in market expansion and adherence to global quality standards.”

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India’s (HMSI) Global Resource Factory located in Manesar is significant for the brand. It was established in 2001 and ‘Activa’ was the first mass-production model that was manufactured at this facility. This was also Honda’s first two-wheeler manufacturing unit in India.

The factory has grown and evolved over the years and has now become a significant export hub that contributes significantly to India’s position as a key player in the global automotive landscape. Currently, HMSI exports its products to 58 markets across the world, including Europe, Central & Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and SAARC nations.
