LS2 IRID Dynamic Visor Reacts to Light in 0.09sec

  • Changes visible light transmission between 60% and 20%
  • Debuts with the Thunder GP Aero; not sold separately yet

LS2 IRID Dynamic Visor is a new adaptive helmet shield for riders who move through changing light conditions, something like the Shoei Transitions or the Bell Protint. It makes its debut integrated with LS2’s flagship Thunder GP Aero helmet offered in clear and dark base variants. Still only available on the flagship, we hope this tech seeps lower to more LS2 models.

Most riders have to face bright sunlight, shadows, flyovers, tree cover, tunnels and sudden weather changes. A normal clear visor feels too bright in harsh sun while a dark visor becomes risky in low light. So the LS2 IRID Dynamic Visor tries to solve this problem by adjusting its light transmission automatically. It can shift between 60 percent and 20 percent visible light transmission giving the rider more usable vision across mixed conditions.

LS2 says the visor adapts in 0.09 seconds which is much faster than the kind of light change most riders experience on the road. It’ll be useful when entering a tunnel, passing through dense shade or emerging suddenly into strong sunlight. Also the visor does not need charging. It works without batteries keeping the system lighter and removes one more ownership worry. The visor weighs only 20g, is waterproof and gets an integrated anti-fog system tested for 120 seconds.

LS2 is not launching this as a universal visor across its full range. By introducing it through its flagship helmet, the company is clearly positioning the IRID Dynamic Visor as premium technology first. Most riders will have to wait before they can buy the feature separately or use it on more affordable LS2 helmets.
