Patna: In an effort to curb traffic jams on Gandhi Setu and bypass area of Patna, routes were changed for large commercial vehicles entering the western parts of the city from Zero Mile. A new route plan was issued by the traffic police on Wednesday.
Patna traffic superintendent of police (SP) Aprajit Lohan said trucks can enter western Patna from Zero Mile only between 10pm and 6am. This does not apply to essential service vehicles such as tankers, fuel supply and milk vans, ambulances, hearses and fire service, Lohan said.
During the day, large vehicles from Hajipur can cross the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and proceed from Zero Mile to Masaurhi crossing, Pahadi crossing, Bypass police station crossing, Toll Plaza and Deedarganj, passing under Fatuah Road over Bridge. They can continue towards their destination on Sarmera-Bihta route.
Large vehicles (trucks) heading from Bakhtiyarpur towards Bihta can travel under the Fatuha RoB and proceed via the Sarmera-Bihta road. Trucks coming from Jehanabad and Masaurhi towards Bihta can also proceed via the same road near Beldari Chak.
Patna traffic SP Lohan said due to sand-laden and other trucks from Hajipur, passing through Mahatma Gandhi Setu and urban areas to New Bypass, there is a significant increase in traffic pressure. To reduce the traffic pressure and ensure smooth flow on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and New Bypass route (from Toll Plaza to Phulwarisharif), some routes have been designated for the operation of large vehicles like trucks.”
