Tamil Nadu Police’s Highly Modified Force Traveller Raises Eyebrows – Breaking The Law?

The Indian government has banned vehicle modifications that alter the original specifications provided by the OEMs. This means that those additional body kits, fancy spoilers, and after-market exhausts are illegal on Indian roads.

It seems that the Tamil Nadu police have found a way around the regulations that prohibit civilians from modifying their vehicles. Recently the Tamil Nadu police were seen driving a fully modified Force Traveller.

This modified Force Traveller is a mobile control unit and is said to have surveillance cameras all over the vehicle. The exterior of the Force Traveller is equipped with high-resolution CCTV cameras, rooftop flashlights, and even drones.

This integrated mobile control unit is currently doing trial runs conducted by the district police of Vellore. According to the reports, it will transmit real-time data from the field to the control room at the SP office.

The authorities will utilise this vehicle during emergencies, especially during natural disasters in Vellore and its neighbouring districts like Ranipet and Tirupattur. This Traveller can be deployed in these places within no time and can access difficult terrains in difficult situations.

Public safety during political and religious events, rallies, and processions can also be motored with the help of this vehicle. It’ll also help to maintain law and order in sensitive places like Vellore, Gudiyatham, Pernambut, Walajah, Arcot, Ambur, and Vaniyambadi.

The fully custom built Force Traveller is equipped with many cutting-edge technologies, along with its four network video recorder (NVR) cameras and a mounted 360-degree pan tilt zoom (PTZ) camera.

The cameras can capture and record long-distance footage up to 500 metres. The addition of drones will further add to the vehicle’s surveillance capabilities by providing a wider perspective of the location.

With the addition of this surveillance vehicle, now the police can collect real-time data from the field. This enhances their surveillance capabilities and improves coordination with relief and rescue operations.

The heavily modified Force Traveller of the Tamil Nadu police might raise concerns among people due to the negligence of vehicle modification rules. But we should understand that these modifications will aid the police in operations where it is difficult for normal vehicles to go.
