TVS Apache RR200 MiniGP Bike Explained

TVS has launched a new MiniGP bike, and it is based on the Apache RTR 200 4V. The bike will be used in the TVS Racing MiniGP Program, which aims to provide kids aged 10 to 15 a platform to start their racing journey.

Currently, most professional racers start their racing career at the age of 16 in India, and with the MiniGP racing program, the brand plans on identifying racing talent at a younger age. This will also make it easier for riders to progress to the higher levels, like the Rookie’s Cup, from the age of 15.

The MiniGP bike is built on the same platform as the Apache RTR 200 4V, but has undergone a lot of changes to make it suited for younger riders. Starting with the engine, it is the same 197.75cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 22.6bhp. A 30mm semi-flat-slide carburettor handles the fuel supply. Additionally, it gets a conical free-flow exhaust system.

The bike is built on a modified RTR 200 4V frame and swingarm, with a shorter wheelbase of 1180mm. Suspension duties are handled by an inverted fork and a monoshock. The inverted fork is preload, compression, and rebound adjustable. Weight reduction has been a major priority, and for this, the brand has only used metal on the fuel tank. The tank is built from aluminum and features a fibre cover.

With these changes, the GP bike has a very light weight of 90kg. Weight is one part of the picture when dealing with kids who are as young as 10 to 15, so for this, the seat height is an accessible 690mm.

Overall, the RR200 MiniGP bike looks quite promising and could be the ideal stepping stone for younger riders who are just starting.
