Ducati’s new 890cc V2 engine with Intake Variable Timing IVT produces 110bhp at 9,000rpm and 91.1Nm at 7,250rpm. More than 80 percent of the maximum torque will now be available between 4,000rpm and 10,000rpm making it more usable on city streets. This engine is also 5.9kg lighter than the previous Testastretta Evoluzione motor.

Valve-clearance inspections are required only every 45,000km reducing one of the ownership concerns traditionally associated with high-performance Ducatis. The company has also introduced prepaid maintenance plans. Ducati Protect+ costs Rs. 30,999 and covers two years or 15,000km, while Ducati Protect Pro costs Rs. 54,999 and extends the cover to four years or 30,000km. Both include scheduled genuine parts and labour at authorised Ducati dealerships, although consumables such as brake pads, clutch plates and tyres are excluded.

The chassis has changed considerably too. Ducati uses a monocoque frame with the V2 engine acting as a stressed member. At the rear is a double-sided swingarm inspired by the Hollow Symmetrical Swingarm used on the Panigale V4, along with a rear structure combining technopolymer and trellis elements. The result is a quoted wet weight without fuel of 175kg, four kilograms less than the previous Monster!

Ergonomics have also received updates with the seat now 815mm making it 5mm lower than before. It has also been made narrower to help riders place their feet on the ground more easily. The handlebar is positioned higher and further forward improving control during sporty riding while also maintaining a comfortable posture.

There is a clever thermal detail around the side panels as well. The bodywork near the seat has been shaped to direct hot air from the radiator away from the rider. Electronics package is extensive too. There is a six-axis IMU that supports cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control and Ducati Quick Shift 2.0. Four riding modes are available, Sport, Road, Urban and Wet.

The new five-inch TFT display gets an 800×400-pixel resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. You also operate it through new petal-shaped joystick, and is ready for the Ducati Multimedia System, turn-by-turn navigation and cruise control.
