Indian Chief Vintage Sturgis Edition is Limited to Just 125 Units

  • Only 125 individually numbered motorcycles will be produced globally
  • Red and Cream paint with period details
  • India is absent from the confirmed international market list

The absolutely gorgeous Indian Chief Vintage Sturgis, SD Edition has been unveiled at the 86th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota with a limited production run of 125 units worldwide. Unfortunately, India is not among the markets chosen to receive the motorcycle.

First gathering at Sturgis in 1938 was organised by an Indian Motorcycle dealer and a group of Indian-riding brothers who wanted to race. Nine riders took part in that early event which attracted around 200 spectators and eventually developed into what is now one of the world’s best-known motorcycle rallies.

New Chief Vintage Sturgis, SD Edition draws heavily from that history. Its two-tone Indian Motorcycle Red and Cream paint is intended to recall the company’s motorcycles from the 1930s, while the multicoloured Indian Motorcycle headdress emblem on the fuel tank adds another period touch.

Indian Chief Vintage Riding

Indian has painted the number 56 onto it as a reference to the hand-painted racing numbers used by riders during the early Sturgis gatherings. Each motorcycle also receives individual serialisation up to 125.

The basic motorcycle underneath is the Chief Vintage which already lends itself well to this treatment. It uses deeply valanced front and rear fenders, wire-spoke wheels, vintage handlebars and a single Vintage Espresso seat. The illuminated warbonnet on the front fender is awesome as always.

Indian Chief Vintage Right Rear Three Quarter

It uses the air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 V-twin pushing out 156Nm of torque. There are three riding modes, Tour, Standard and Sport, allowing the engine response to be adjusted to suit your ride conditions. Indian also fits its four-inch circular touchscreen powered by RIDE COMMAND.

Only 125 examples will be produced, and North America will naturally form the core market. Indian Motorcycle has confirmed very limited availability outside North America in Australia, Benelux, Central Europe, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Nordic countries, Middle East and Africa, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. India is conspicuously missing from that list.
