Renault India is expanding its local lineup by introducing a hybrid variant of its compact SUV, scheduled for a price announcement tomorrow. This follows recent introductions including the new-generation Duster, the MY26 Kwid, and the Triber turbo-petrol. Advance reservations for the new variant are currently active for a token amount of Rs. 21,000. Known as the E-Tech 160 powertrain, the system achieves an ARAI-certified mileage rating of 29kmpl. The French manufacturer intends to challenge Japanese dominance in the strong-hybrid compact SUV space with this launch.

Powertrain and Performance Specifications

Beneath the bonnet of the 2026 Duster hybrid sits a 1.8-litre petrol engine working in conjunction with a 1.4kWh battery pack and a dual-motor electric setup. This combined unit generates a total output of 160bhp and 172Nm of torque, routed through a dedicated hybrid transmission. This variant becomes the third powertrain option for the Duster lineup, which already offers 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines. While platform sibling Nissan Tekton shares the underlying structure and several engine options, it is reportedly unlikely to receive this hybrid setup.

For occupant protection, the vehicle is equipped with 6 airbags, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat tethers. Pricing and Market Outlook

Expected to carry an ex-showroom price tag between Rs. 18 lakh and Rs. 22 lakh, the hybrid compact SUV will compete directly against models like the Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, and the upcoming Kia Seltos Hybrid. Observers note that while the Duster nameplate carries strong nostalgia, recent sales figures have lagged, making the introduction of a high-efficiency hybrid an important step to draw showroom traffic as Indian buyers increasingly shift toward alternative powertrains.
