Triumph reveals new Moto2 race engine for 2027

Triumph Motorcycles has revealed a new race engine that will power the Moto2 World Championship from the 2027 season. The new engine is said to deliver around six per cent more peak power than the current engine, while also receiving extensive changes to its internals, cooling and air intake systems.

Triumph has focused on increasing airflow into the cylinders. It gets a completely redesigned cylinder head, a low-inertia valvetrain, higher-flow ports and a revised combustion chamber. These changes allow for a higher compression ratio and are intended to increase torque across the rev range.

The crankcases and other internal components have also been redesigned to cope with the additional power and torque. Despite the performance increase, Triumph says the overall engine weight has been reduced by 2kg. The exact engine specifications are under wraps and Triumph will announce them later.

The engine upgrade will also require Moto2 chassis manufacturers to develop completely new chassis for 2027. In particular, changes will be required to the air intake positioning and engine mounting points. Triumph says it has been working with the chassis manufacturers for the past 12 months to provide the necessary technical information.

The new engine will be made available to Moto2 teams shortly, with private testing already underway. Its on-track debut is expected later this year, ahead of its introduction to the championship grid in 2027.

Triumph Street Triple RS Engine From Right

For the uninitiated, Triumph Triumph has been the exclusive engine supplier for the Moto2 World Championship since 2019. The entire Moto2 grid is powered by a 765cc, three-cylinder engine that is derived from the Triumph Street Triple RS road bike.

Besides the bragging rights of being the sole engine supplier for the Moto2 teams, Triumph has also accumulated a wealth of data over the years. In total, Triumph has collected 1,926,132km of racing data, along with extensive feedback from riders and teams.

Triumph and MotoGP have also extended their Moto2 partnership through 2029.
