KTM has displayed the RC450 at the 2026 EICMA event, offering a preview of its upcoming middleweight sportbike built on a CFMoto platform. Although the motorcycle will be manufactured in China and exported to Europe in early 2027, the brand's separate 490cc parallel-twin platform is currently in the final stages of development and production in India.

KTM 490 Platform and Norton 450 Urban Reveal

According to KTM officials, the upcoming 490cc platform is an entirely distinct family of motorcycles rather than a derivative of the CFMoto architecture. The initial model on this domestic platform will be the KTM 490 Duke, which is scheduled for a production-spec debut at EICMA 2027. Following that, the 490 Adventure is expected to make its public unveiling at EICMA 2028.

Concurrently, Norton Motorcycles globally revealed its new 450cc urban motorcycle on November 2, ahead of a public debut at EICMA on November 3. The announcement was accompanied by the first official image showing the machine alongside Sudarshan Venu, Chairman of TVS Motor Company. Sales for this new urban model are scheduled to commence in 2027, with the official model name to be disclosed closer to the launch date.

Design and Hardware of the Norton 450cc

The new Norton offering embraces a modern, futuristic design language characterized by a compact, angular headlamp, a sculpted tank section, and exposed silver-finished frame elements. A slim seat cascades into an aggressively elevated tail section that leaves much of the rear wheel exposed, complemented by an upswept exhaust system featuring a metallic heat shield, alloy wheels, and a rear wheel-mounted license plate holder.

Observed mechanical hardware includes upside-down front forks and disc braking units on both wheels, combined with pale metallic bodywork and dark mechanical components. Norton describes the vehicle's aesthetic approach as prioritizing proportions, stance, shaped surfaces, and meticulous detail, though it remains unconfirmed whether these show-bike traits will reach production unchanged.

  • Advanced aluminium frame designed for agile handling characteristics
  • Large 8-inch TFT touchscreen equipped with modern connectivity features
  • Upside-down front forks and dual-end disc brake setups
  • Upswept exhaust system complete with a metallic heat shield

Engine Specs and Global Expansion Plans

Propulsion is supplied by a liquid-cooled 454cc single-cylinder engine delivering 45 Nm of torque, engineered for responsive, accessible performance tailored to urban riding environments. While peak power figures, transmission details, kerb weight, and performance metrics were omitted, output is anticipated to land between 40–45 bhp. Norton confirmed an aluminium framework serves as the structural base for the motorcycle's handling.

The new 450cc entry expands Norton's current portfolio following the EICMA 2025 showcases of the Manx, Manx R, Atlas, and Atlas GT models. With European deliveries of the Manx R and Atlas underway, the brand operates over 50 retail locations spanning 10 markets while laying groundwork for entry into India and the United States. In a promotional video, Sudarshan Venu emphasized that the 450cc urban motorcycle embodies a minimalist design philosophy, emotional engagement, and lifestyle integration for modern riders.
